Away from the harbour area is the shopping centre. Regrettably any notable building in the town has been eliminated by the 'Planners' and 'Developers' over the years.

A short walk up Church Hill, however, is St. Michael's church which was built by the Normans in 1120 and features a distinctive semi-circular apse, and the building is in the style of those more usually found in Normandy. The nave dates from victorian times.

For leisure activities there is an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre in the town centre as well as various football and cricket pitches around the town as well as open air tennis courts.

For more leisurly activities why not take a stroll along the recently constructed Riverside Walk, not forgetting to visit the RNLI Lifeboat Station and Shop just before the marina. Follow the road a little further brings you the the Recreation Ground with it's Football and Cricket pitches and bowling club. Further still and you can visit Newhaven Fort. Built in the 1860s it houses many exhibitions and displays including the Military Museum. Some of the displays are under cover and so ideal if the weather is not at it's best. On the east side of the river is Paradise Park with Planet Earth and Dinosaur museum, botanic garden and kid's playland park. Just alongside is the Newhaven Maritime Museum
